SUMMARY:

The Community Health and Nutrition Officer is responsible for coordinating community-level health and nutrition interventions that strengthen the continuum of care between the community and health facility levels. The post holder will ensure effective community mobilization, disease prevention, early detection, and referral of cases, contributing to an integrated health and nutrition response. He/she will work closely with Community Health Volunteers (CHVs/CHNVs), Community Midwives (CMWs), and the Health and Nutrition Coordinator to ensure timely referrals, health education, and service uptake in targeted areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The “Community Health and Nutrition Officer “will be responsible but not limited to:

  • Coordinate and implement all community health and nutrition activities under the Project, ensuring strong linkages between community structures and supported health facilities.

  • Collaborate with the ICCM, MAMI, Referral, SBC, and RH Officers to promote an integrated service delivery model addressing maternal, newborn, and child health, nutrition, and disease prevention.

  • Supervise and mentor Community Health Volunteers (CHVs/CHNVs) to conduct household visits, community sensitization sessions, and referrals of malnutrition and illness cases to the nearest health facilities.

  • Coordinate with the Health and Nutrition Coordinator and technical specialists to assess training needs and deliver regular capacity-building sessions for CHVs/CHNVs and community workers.

  • Ensure accurate recording and reporting of community health data, including referrals, health promotion sessions, and disease surveillance, using standardized tools and ledgers.

  • Monitor community-facility referral flows to ensure timely follow-up, feedback, and resolution of referred cases.

  • Conduct field visits to provide on-the-job coaching to CHVs/CHNVs, verify activity quality, and ensure adherence to national protocols (IMCI, IYCF, MAMI, and RH standards).

  • Support behavior change activities in coordination with the SBC Officer, promoting key health, hygiene, and nutrition messages aligned with project integrated approach.

  • Participate in community health and nutrition needs assessments to inform planning and adaptive implementation.

  • Work with local health authorities (DHO/GHO) and community leaders to ensure alignment with Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP) priorities and smooth collaboration.

  • Submit timely weekly and monthly reports to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, documenting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.

  • Ensure safeguarding, gender, disability inclusion, and accountability principles are integrated into all activities.

  • Adhere to the organization’s safeguarding framework, including Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), child protection, anti-harassment, and ethical conduct policies, ensuring alignment with international standards (e.g., Core Humanitarian Standard, UN CRC).

  • Promptly report safeguarding concerns or violations through designated channels, maintain confidentiality, and participate in mandatory safeguarding training to uphold a safe, inclusive environment for all stakeholders.

  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the Health and Nutrition Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health & nutrition or equivalent; (nursing, midwifery, and other Medical qualifications desirable) from any recognized institution.

  • Demonstrated experience in health/nutrition programming with at least 3 years of experience in health/nutrition or related field, preferably in humanitarian NGOs.

  • English and Arabic languages (writing and speaking) are required.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular).

  • Ability to work long hours, often under pressure

  • Personal qualities such as commitment to caring for others, resourcefulness, and stamina

  • The ability to prioritize a busy workload and work under pressure

  • The ability to communicate well with people, demonstrating empathy and reflection

  • Teamwork and leadership skills

  • Having experience with ADRA is preferable and adds value
